There are statistics that report nearly 50% of women of child-bearing age are heavy with the secret of past abortions. Even God-fearing, Christian women. They remain unhealed and deeply burdened because of the shame of the act itself and the fear of sharing such a secret.
LifeWay has released a Bible study called Surrendering The Secret: Healing the Heartbreak of Abortion by Pat Layton. Melinda on Traveling the Road Home is offering the complete study in the giveaway that keeps on giving. Melinda thinks all churches should have this resource and I agree. That's why I am participating.
I remember seeing an advertisement for this study on the back of my church-provided devotional book just this past summer. I was surprised because no one ever talks about abortion, let alone offers a Bible study focused on the women and offering healing. I thought it was great, but I doubted that any church would offer it and even if they did...I doubted if women would even go, the stigma is so huge. It's a problem.
However, I want to be part of the solution.

God bless you, Georgia, for spreading the word! You're right, it IS greatly needed!
Big hugs,
Melinda
I am aware of some that need that study, myself. That is awesome. Maybe God will use you to pass some vital truths this way again. It sure was cool the way He did it last time!
Georgia,
Thank you for helping us share the healing that God has for so many women!
Bless you,
Pat
Georgia,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. It is hard for me to be transparent on my blog, because I have so many family and friends that look at it. So many that I am ashamed to hear of my secrets. But My God is Good, and He would rather me minister to others than be afraid of what people would think of me. He is the one that matters and He is fulling aware of my life and has forgiven me.
I too have posted about melinda's give away. Praise God for this study.
I have met over the last 15-17 years 10 or more Christian women who have had abortions but are terrified to talk about it for fear of being not only judged but, I don't know, shunned or worse.
I have felt for a long time that this is a topic that we need to really get out in the open and really talk about. Because here's the thing: how many Bible studies have you sat in where the topic of abortion came up and it became a topic of disgust or dismay or shame or ultimate sin? And how many women (who have abortion in their past) do you think sat there and participated in that conversation just so they wouldn't be found out? I've seen that scenario play out many times and you probably have, too.
I'd like to see that scenario go away. I think we need to open up more, talk more, learn more, care more, be more compassionate. Because until we do - those who have had abortions are not going to want to talk about their experiences. And until they talk, the full measure and scope of the emotional and spiritual impact of abortion isn't going to be known to its fullest extent. And a great weapon in a fight against abortion will not be realized.
Those are just my thoughts. So I'm glad there's a study on it. I'm gonna go read more about it. Thanks, G.
